CURRENT AND RECENT INITIATIVES

Discovery High School Partnership

With grant support from Camas Washougal Community Chest, Discovery High School Construction Technology and Engineering (CTE) students are in the final stages of building three custom Little Wings Library boxes. The first of these libraries will be placed in the newly renovated Crown Park, serving families and children who gather at the park and surrounding neighborhood.

This partnership gives students meaningful hands on experience as they apply construction skills while contributing to a real community need. Little Wings Library values this collaboration and looks forward to continuing to work with Discovery High School on future library builds.

Clark County Juvenile Court Family Literacy Event

Little Wings Library is a proud community partner for the Clark County Juvenile Court’s annual Family Literacy Event, working alongside Fort Vancouver Regional Library, Police Activities League, Clark County Food Bank, Barnes & Noble and Restored and Revived. Together, these organizations supported families accessing court services by connecting them to community resources and providing essentials such as shelf stable food, hygiene products, coats, blankets and socks. As part of the event, Little Wings Library shared more than 400 carefully curated books for families to choose from and offered a fun activity for children to enjoy together.

Restored and Revivied

Restored and Revived is a nonprofit that mentors individuals navigating incarceration and recovery. Little Wings Library partnered with their team to create a children’s book  nook in their office for families participating in these programs. This book nook gives children a welcoming place to read and connect with stories while their family member receives support on the path toward stability.

Stories and Smiles

Stories and Smiles is a Little Wings Library outreach initiative created by Nysa, an eighth grader who has firsthand experience navigating frequent medical visits due to a medical condition. Inspired by her own experiences, the program uses two book carts filled with books and art activities to reach children during medical appointments. By offering moments of choice, creativity and comfort, Stories and Smiles helps transform waiting time into a more positive and supportive experience for children and their families.

Court's Kids

Court’s Kids is a Little Wings Library initiative currently in development, created in honor of Courtney, a dedicated special education teacher who deeply loved her students and believed in the power of putting books into the hands of children. Although her life was cut short early in her teaching career, this program carries her caring spirit forward through the gift of reading.

With grant funding from the Richard and Sarah Melching Family Fund, Little Wings Library is shaping this initiative to serve middle school students through the Camas Family Resource Center. Middle school is a pivotal time when students are developing identity, confidence and independence, yet literacy support for this age group is often limited. Graphic novels were intentionally selected because they engage reluctant readers, support visual learning and help students build reading stamina while still experiencing rich storytelling and joy in reading.

Camas School District Book Bowl READgionals

Book Bowl READgionals is an elementary school literacy event supported by Little Wings Library. In 2025, Little Wings Library played a central role by coordinating the featured guest author visit, supporting local authors and illustrators, recruiting and supervising volunteers, developing the event passport and providing branded book bags and prizes for student competitors. Additional contributions included designing the Book Bowl logo and coordinating trophies created by Discovery High School students. Through grant support from iQ for Kids and Runyan’s Jewelers, each of the 52 student competitors received a copy of Orca Rescue along with a Book Bowl book bag. Students also had the opportunity to meet the author in person and receive a signed copy of their book, creating a meaningful and memorable literacy experience.
